Fine Woodworking Magazine app good for
The app gives good and simple access to the issues. There does not appear to be an index that help you find a particular story. Overall I am very happy with it. I hope they continue to add more back issues.
Hard to get around in the app but the content of Fine Woodworking Magazine is worth it.
Between the app and the online version I get great value from my subscription. Awesome content - and the Pekovich videos packed with pro techniques!
Here is my take on the positives of the digital delivery system. I use it primarily on my iPad. Have not checked to see if I can view it on my MacBook Pro;
• Zoom - see photo details or enlarge print. Helpful as I am in my mid 40s.
• Embedded links - to advertisers and other multi media content.
Digital delivery system negative;
• Embedded browser - While it works, is easy to accidentally hit the wrong back button and end up back in the reading app and not the prior browsing page.

My take on the content positives;
• Deep and rich content - if you are not an experienced woodworker it will challenge you to raise your understanding, and confuse you with some of the terminology used.
• Content - geared to intermediate or greater level experienced fine woodworkers.
Content negatives (Actually, content suggestions that may help bridge the knowledge gap between a novice whom is determined to be a fine woodworker and an intermediate level woodworker.) I classify my fine woodworking skill as novice, bordering on intermediate. I often find myself feeling like Im in the deep end when I see project plans in the magazine. I appreciate what I see but need a bridge to get me over the knowledge gap.
• A novice fine woodworker would benefit from a series of small, fine woodworking projects using basic tools and technical instructions with explanations of terms and the cause-effect of one tool over another. The goal of these projects being to enable small, but progressive wins leading to increased skill and confidence in ones woodworking potential.
• These projects must result in a fine but basic piece of work.
• The opportunity here, with only a few pages per issue, is to groom a next generation of intermediate or better fine wood craft persons. Who knows, maybe content like this would add subscribers who may be on the fence.

The Newsstand app provides you with digital versions of the monthly print magazine, which is The reference for woodworking in the US. Very easy to carry around on the iPad, even better quality of pictures than in print (and in addition, zoomable for details), and additional offline and online content. Essentially targeted towards the print subscribers of FWW magazine.

I would like to see a bookmarking/ indexing functionality for keeping track of those articles that are of high interest to me, as well as importing the 200-odd old issues from the past 35 years. But it is a great start.
Best magazine app I use. I like the extensive yet unobtrusive hyperlink systems placed throughout the content.
Some bad moments
Im using IOS 10 on my ipad, and this app crashes so regularly it makes a digital subscription pretty much useless, unless you have a great deal of patience and dont mind restarting the app after approximately every 60 pages. Thankfully Im on my 14 day trial period, so Ill be canceling. If this company cannot make a better app they should allow customers to download the magazine and read it via iBooks. Very disappointed!
Downloaded and immediately deleted this app everything in it cost you money you must have a subscription to even review it waste of time.
I spent a half hour with this and knew it wasnt for me. I had hoped for content as with log-in PC friendly site, being able to cruise articles. Nope -- just the magazines. And I am not looking to download former editions to my iPad. >Delete App<
Paired both print & online accounts, but cant seem to get to the content as advertised. Ill stick to the website.
I like this app just fine, despite its nonexistent search function, but a couple of weeks ago several issues that I had paid for simply disappeared. Not only were they not marked as purchased, they were no longer available to download or purchase at all. I called customer service multiple times, but they have yet to reconcile this, and have told me that they would eventually get in touch when there is a resolution. Its been several weeks.
Completely frustrating are the best words to describe this app. I cant open a magazine Ive downloaded unless Im online. I have to flip through issue after issue of issues I dont own and dont care about in order to find the issues and/or books I have already purchased. Additionally frustrating, though few others may have to deal with this, I work overseas in some petty remote locations. The Internet is almost always very slow. Still, youd think it would be easy read the content Ive already purchased and downloaded to my iPad. Nope! The stupid start screen freezes. Stupid, stupid app. I feel ripped off.
